This weekend my swedish club placed itself as good as on the 5th place in the big 25 man relay in Stockholm - after solid performances of all the 25 members of the team, young, elite as well as seniors, a surprised speaker had to realize that Leksands OK is finally one of the best clubs in the world after all...

Satisfying World Cup Final in Zurich

The World Cup Final near my home, it was this year's unique chance to beat some international top-shots on homeground. It was almost too perfect, a forest which I was running as kid to learn the fundamental O-skills. I was probably in the shape of my life. But, it turned out to be more complicated. Sickness catched me the weekend before the competitions of the year, all my dreams faded suddenly.

Another but later, I managed to recover somehow and get ready for the competitions. The shape was not the same anymore, but my performances were though pretty well and I could get my best places ever in World Cup: 19 for the middle distance race on Saturday, 18 in the city sprint on Sunday. And a nice 32 overall position in this years World Cup.

Between lakes and mountains

After my trip to Taiwan it was quite a bit a change in climate to come to the Engadin Valley. Together with Rahel and some friends i went to Vulpera, a small village close to Scuol where the possibilities for training are just excellent. We made some really long and tough trainings with two longjogs as the highlight of the week. The nicest training led us over 24 km from Zernez to Lavin, where we had to climb more than 2000 meters uphill and of course down again, which destroyed our legs badly.

World Games Taiwan - worth the trip

I am back from World Games, not even a week I was in the far East. And it was definitively worth the trip. Even without technically very demanding competitions the courses were exciting and tough. And of I course I met a very different culture there in Chinese Taipei.

On Thursday July 16 the World Games 2009 start in Kaohsiung (Chinese Taipei). I am part of the Swiss Orienteering delegation and will run the sprint and middle distance competitions on friday and saturday. Live coverage in the internet seems to be really good.

Swiss Middle Champs in Austria

This weekend, I was starting at the Swiss Middle Championships, but for once not somewhere in Switzerland but in Feldkirch, Austria, close to the Swiss border.

On Saturday the weekend started with a sprint competition in the town of Feldkirch, followed by the Swiss champs on Sunday in Göfis.

I had some problems in the beginning of the sprint race but finished quite okej, and since most of the others hade similar troubles, I finished in 4th place. Also in the race on sunday I did quite a satisfying performance, finishing in 6th place among the Swiss guys.

After a good training period the last months, I was looking forward to first international events this year, the World Cup races in Finland. But as I was not so used to the terrain type around Salo and the concurrence was really tough I was not aiming very high, I just wanted to be satifsfied with my performance. But even this goal was too high for me...

Training concentration: summer biathlon!

Holding concentration high during physical struggle - thats what its all about in orienteering. One kind of method to train this I like very much is summer biathlon intervals.

In order to do such a training at home, a friend and I built our own biathlon targets falling down when you hit them with our air rifles. This weekend was the first chance to test our construction. And it was fun! See yourself in the video clip.
