NORT and WOC testraces

The last weeks were filled with a lot of important competitions: World Cup started with a tour through scandinavia during almost two weeks, also including Jukola. Only one week afterwards, it was time to show a good performance at the Swiss WOC test races if you wanted to grab one of the rare Swiss WOC tickets.

My performances at the Nordic Orienteering Tour were constant, but constantly dissapointing with the places 37 (even missing the final) in stage 1, 29 in stage 2 and 29 overall. Although my shape was pretty good, I never managed to do a steady race on a high level like almost all the other Swiss guys, impressing throughout the whole tour with 8 out of 9 podium places!

Back in Switzerland it was time to prepare for a terrain switch - from scandinavia to the karstic french terrain where the WOC test were held. And in contrary to the NORT, the performances in the three races were quite satisfying (except for two big mistakes in long distance) and I could do the best testrace series ever, with places 5-4-6!

After a long period of silence on my site it is high time for an update before the international orienteering season 2011 kicks off. In short, I can say that my winter training went well and I got a good feeling during spring and some first competitions. However, my performance at the selection races were not satisfying for me and I had to tremble for my place in the Swiss NORT-team. Finally I made it, and after a some last preparation this weekend I feel really ready for the exciting races during the next two weeks (including of course, Jukola).

Medal Nr. 3 and Marathon

Wenns mal läuft mit Medaillen gewinnen, dann scheint es einfach zu laufen... Auch über die Mitteldistanz gelang mir wieder eine gute Leistung und der Sprung aufs Podest: Rang 2 gabs diesmal, eine gute Minute hinter Matthias Merz, doch knapp vor Marc Lauenstein.
Kaum gings dann aber nicht mehr um SM Medaillen wollte es nicht mehr von alleine. So kam ich im Grand Prix Lauf vom Sonntag nicht wirklich auf Touren und landete auf Rang 8...
Vergangenes Wochenende ging es wieder einmal ohne Karte und Kompass um die Wurst: ich startet mit einigen OL Kollegen zusammen an der Ekiden Staffel in Basel. Wir liefen für das Goldwurst Power Team aufgeteilt auf die 6 Strecken einen Marathon über 42.195 km!

First senior medals in Swiss champs!!

Finally I did it! My first medals at Swiss Champs in the senior class have been waiting for me for like 5 years. But now I got a silver in sprint and and bronce in the long distance, and it smells like more to come :-)

It was a sunny weekend in the beautiful alpine region near Savognin in this years Championships and it was one of those weekend you know afterwards why you chose to be an orienteer!

Swiss EOC Testraces

Dieses Wochenende fanden die Schweizer Selektionsläufe für die EM in Bulgarien statt. Ich konnte dabei stabile technische Leistungen abrufen und verzeichnete keine grösseren Abstürze. Dieser fand leider schon im Vorfeld statt: Nach gutem Wintertraining und guter Form im Vorfeld legte mich einige Tage vor diesen wichtigen Wettkämpfen ein Virus lahm. So resultierten die Ränge 9 - 5 - 10 und 11.

Ups and Downs

To summarize my last few weeks I can say that there were many Ups but unfortunately peppered with some Downs as well. It started with a disastrous performance at MOC in Italy and ended now with a very good training week topped by a victory in a running competition. So at least I am very positive with respect to the upcoming season, my physical shape has never been so good and also technically the curve points up...
